Hidden costs: 4× the route for the driver's outward/return journey

Car, cab or train - which is best for getting to the airport?

Getting to the airport is often more expensive than expected. If you spontaneously call a cab, you can easily pay €100 or more for longer distances - just for the outward journey. The train is cheaper, but not always comfortable with heavy luggage and transfers. And driving yourself? It's often more worthwhile than you think - especially with cheap off-airport parking.

Our journey & cost comparison calculator takes into account current fuel prices, real parking costs from our comparison portal, German cab fares and train prices. This allows you to see at a glance which option is the cheapest for your route and journey duration.

Many travelers also underestimate the hidden costs of "drop-off". This is because the driver has to drive the route a total of four times: Take you there, drive you back, pick you up, drive you back again. At 80 km to the airport, that's 320 km of fuel and wear and tear - often more expensive than a cheap shuttle parking space.

Tip: For trips of one week or more, self-drive + low-cost shuttle parking is almost always the best choice. You save up to 60% compared to a cab and have maximum flexibility.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the calculations?
Our calculations are based on current average fuel prices, official German cab fares and real parking prices from our system. Actual costs may vary by approx. 10-15% depending on the time of day, traffic and specific provider.
Are the prices updated automatically?
Fuel prices, cab fares and train prices are regularly updated by our team. The parking prices are loaded in real time from our booking system - including seasonal prices and current availability.
Is self-driving + parking really worth it?
For trips of 5-7 days or more and a distance of more than 30 km to the airport, driving yourself with off-airport parking is usually the cheapest and most convenient option. The calculator shows you a transparent comparison.
Can I book a parking space directly?
Yes, if "Car + Parking" is displayed as an option, you will see all available parking spaces with real prices. One click takes you directly to the booking page with all the details.
Why is "having it delivered" often more expensive than expected?
Because the driver has to drive the route a total of four times: take you there, drive you home, pick you up and drive you home again. At 50 km to the airport, that's 200 km of fuel and wear and tear. A parking space for 35€/week is often cheaper!
